Free programs, tools

Here are some programs and tools that is provided to the public by Szoftver Messiás Inc for free, and without any warranty. There are very special tools that can be used for a specific task only and there are more general applications too. Please visit the Hungarian version of this page too, because some of the tools are not available in English.

You may need a special DLL to run these applications. You have to copy that in your Windows system directory (\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 or \WinNT\SYSTEM32) Download dbs.dll here.

FPatch

Created in 2002. This program can replace multiple strings in multiple files at a time. There are flaws of this program:

• The format of the INI file is not free enough. A bit circumstantial to create an INI file for the ptogram (you have to count and write the number of target fils and replace rules into the INI file).
• Because of its format, it cannot replace newline characters.
• Should have more options in the command line. For example, a switch to turn backup file creating on/off. (Currently, it is always creating backup files.)
• Possibly it is not so effective.

UsrSrvManager

This is a client-server application. Having this application installed, you can start and stop windows services from a remote computer. Consequently, the server side is a windows service itself and can be run on a Windows NT based OS only. The client program is a win32 console program. (A Linux version is available too but you cannot download the Linux version here.) The client program can be run in Windows 95/98 systems too. Using the client program, you can define users and distribute rights to individual services. The communication between the client and the server uses a TCP/IP socket on port 17000. Authentication is done with an OTP (One Time Password) variant. Every time it uses a randomly choosen session key to encrypt the communication channel; the whole system considered secure. ScreenCapture

A very simple tool made within 30 minutes. It can make screenshots of your whole screen. The main problem is solves is that you do not need to press a key ("Print Screen" or "Shift+Print Screen") in order to take a screenshot. It can be useful for example, when you want to save a menu layout. (Popup menus close up when you press a key.) Well, its user interface is not perfect but this is what can be done in 20 minutes.

FireBird archiver

This useful tool helps you in fixing, backing up and restoring FireBird and InterBase databases.

AliasCreator

This is a command line utility. (Win32 console mode application.) It can be used to manage BDE alias names. This is what it knows:

• List parameters, aliases and driver names
• Delete alias
• Create alias
• Recreate alias
• Support for exit codes
